Total AV: Antivirus Peculiarities, Pros & Cons, Price

3 min read

Total AV may seem unreliable because of the numerous confusing reviews. Surely, the company has had its ups and downs, but it learned this lesson and focused on the software’s quality. There have been a few negative reviews since the company decided to listen to the customer’s opinions. These quality changes have brought Total AV wider popularity and more clients. Yet, there are a few things you need to know about the program before you buy it.

The general idea of what it has

Every user can pick between 2 main options: a free and a paid one. The first option is very limited. You’ll basically get only protection against malware and no extra features at all. The full version, on the other hand, comes with such useful features as:

  • A VPN,
  • A Password Manager,
  • Ad Block Pro,
  • Disk Cleaner,
  • Web Security, etc.

Another great peculiarity is that Total AV works on Windows, Mac OS, Android, and iOS devices. Depending on the device’s operating system, the set of features can be different.

The installation process is quite long and takes about 10 minutes. You’ll also have to create an account regardless of the version you get.

As soon as you launch the program, however, you’ll be pleasantly surprised by a simple and user-friendly interface. The navigation process makes it easy to control every component. There are four of those: Antivirus, System Boost, Disk Cleaner, and Webs Security. Color schemes make it even more convenient. Every block is green when everything is fine. As soon as you need to take actions or update elements, the color or the corresponding block will become yellow or red.

The protection you can expect

This aspect of software still needs improvements since it doesn’t deliver 100% safety. Every user also has only 2 scan options: a quick and a full one. Both of them are time-consuming, so if it’s a key factor for you, don’t get Total AV. Aside from core protection, the program has such features as a firewall and real-time protection. Extra features also include System Boost and Disk Cleaner which are quite useful.

If you get the full bundle, you’ll also be able to enjoy a VPN. It’s a totally separate subject but it delivers another layer of protection when you are online. You can connect to about 40 servers which aren’t a lot but more than enough for everyday browsing. There is also no option of the protocol as the VPN runs on OpenVPN only.

Quarantine is very confusing because it works only in paid versions. If you have a free one, every time a file is caught, you’ll have to decide whether to delete, whitelist, or do nothing with it.

The drawbacks you can’t ignore

Probably the biggest place for the company to grow is the reliability aspect. It doesn’t detect 100% and misses about 10%. This is a huge number in the antivirus industry. Hopefully, the young company will keep listening to the customers and fix this situation.

Furthermore, pricing policy needs changes, too. Many people fell for the alluring $20 per year only to find out that starting from the 2nd payment that sum will be $100-$150 per year. It’s much more than top antivirus programs cost. Here people don’t want to pay so much for so-so protection. That’s why you should be attentive reading about the price and promotion deals.
